Glitch Sounds in Music?

I have always been curious about how some hardcore bands incorporate an almost glitch sounding noise into their songs. For example, 1:45-1:53 of Revive by The Devil Wears Prada and 1:00-1:17 of Lord Xenu by them as well. It sounds really cool in my opinion and I was curious how that sound is created. I have no doubt it's a program of sone sort and that their awesome producer Joey Sturgis is behind it. But I'd just like to know how to make sounds like that in songs. As it is becoming increasIngly popular.
